A Fairy Tale
This story is about imagination, magic, and the power of believing. It was inspired by two things. The first was a story told to the Filgates by an artist friend who lived in the woods on the California coast just north of Big Sur. Soon after moving to that location the friend noticed that when he went outside at night, he could hear what sounded like children laughing and playing. Upon investigation, he discovered a babbling brook that was actually the source of the sound. He described it as being magical. The second inspiration came from Susan's childhood growing up in Pennsylvania. On summer nights, the air was filled with the lights of fireflies. She often imagined that they were really fairy lights with magical powers.
