This image is the cover for book two of the Rip Squeak series of children’s books, “The Treasure.” The original was exhibited in the Delaware Art Museum and was featured on the cover of the catalog and the poster for the exhibition.
This image was actually the artwork that inspired the exhibition at the Delaware Art Museum:
“Sometimes, if you’re lucky, you stumble across the thing you never knew you needed…I happened upon an image created by Leonard Filgate for a book about the adventures of a young mouse… The picture showed a frog dressed in 18th Century garb and wearing a tri-corn hat. He was seated on a bed reading a book called Pirate Tales to a group of friends huddled together against a pillow…As I wandered from one Leonard Filgate illustration to another on that website I discovered a rich variety of painted effects and enchanting visual stories…”
~ Joyce K. Schiller, Curator, Delaware Art Museum from the book “Pirate Tales and Beyond: The Adventures of Rip Squeak & Friends
